Entries Open: 2026 RMB UTCT Challenges Runners to Chase Their 100

Entries for the 2026 RMB Ultra-trail Cape Town (RMB UTCT) are open, marking the start of what promises to be another landmark edition of Africa’s premier trail running festival.

Race weekend takes place from 20 to 22 November 2026, when thousands of athletes from around the world will converge on the Mother City to tackle six distances across Table Mountain and the Cape Peninsula, from the accessible 16km through to the gruelling 100-miler UTCT.

As the finale of the World Trail Majors, RMB UTCT has firmly established itself as a must-race destination for both local and international trail runners. In 2025, the event welcomed 2,800 athletes from 66 countries, with South African athletes delivering standout performances, particularly in the UTCT 100-miler.

Organisers are expecting a record number of entries and a star lineup of internationals who will test themselves on the terrain in preparation for next year’s World Mountain and Trail Running Championships

For the first time, this international event will be hosted on African soil, taking place from 6 to 10 October 2027 in Cape Town.

“The performances we witnessed in the 2025 edition of RMB UTCT were truly world-class. South African athletes demonstrated that they could compete with the world’s best, particularly in the UTCT 100-miler. Having 2,800 athletes from 66 countries racing across our spectacular trails demonstrates that RMB UTCT has firmly established itself as a premier destination on the international circuit,” says Stuart McConnachie, Race Director, RMB Ultra-trail Cape Town.

Introducing the Wall of Honour

This year, organisers have unveiled the 100’s Wall of Honour, a permanent tribute to every runner who has completed a RMB UTCT 100km or 100-mile race. Finishing this distance is, by any measure, a significant achievement, and the 100’s ensures that every runner who crosses that finish line is recognised in perpetuity.

When a runner finishes either the UT100 (100km) or UTCT (100-mile) race, their name is displayed, along with their finish time and the year completed. Forever.

Those completing the 2026 edition will join the fourteen “Originals” who finished the inaugural RMB UTCT in 2014 in 15 hours or under, as well as the storied “Honey Badgers” who have completed the UTCT 100-miler under 30 hours, cementing their place in the history of the event.

McConnachie explains that “In sport, hundreds separate the good from the great. A cricket century. The 100-metre sprint. A 100mph serve. Basketball’s 100-point game. A perfect 10. At its core, hundreds represent abundance, dedication, and the accumulation of small efforts that lead to extraordinary outcomes. It’s hundreds of training runs, hundreds of doubts overcome, hundreds of people who believe in you, and ultimately, hundreds of kilometres or miles that transform ordinary people into legends of their own making.”

Chasing 100

Runners from around the world are already preparing to head to Cape Town in pursuit of their 100. Whether first timers or seasoned veterans, each athlete arrives with the same ambition: to test themselves against Table Mountain and the Cape Peninsula’s challenging terrain. Entrants may choose between the 100km and 100-mile distances.

The Wall of Honour is also a celebration of each runner’s 100 stories. Alongside the permanent naming of every finisher, the event will share intimate portraits of runners from this year and previous years, including first-timers and veterans, international travellers, and local legends, charting the journey from sign-up to the finish line.

“Every 100 has a story. Every runner has something to say. This is where we share the journeys behind the finish lines, the decision to sign up, the training, the race-day highs and lows, and that moment when you realise you’re going to make it,” concludes McConnachie.
