With ULTRA South Africa 2026 fast approaching, local fans are watching one name closely: Aidin Caye.
The veteran producer and DJ will take over the UMF Radio Stage, presented by Confessions.za, in Johannesburg with a set packed with brand-new unreleased music.
Ahead of the Johannesburg and Cape Town festivals this April, Aidin reflects on his journey, the power of festival crowds, and the unexpected release of his new single, Fast Lane.

From bedroom mixes to main stage energy
You’ve become a prominent name in the local club scene. How did your passion for music and DJing begin?
“For as long as I can remember, I’ve connected with music on a deeper level than anything else. I played around with instruments as a child, but never considered music as a career. That changed when I saw a DJ control and ignite a crowd for the first time. I was drawn to that interaction between music and movement. Soon, I was mixing MP3 rips on a friend’s laptop and sharing them with friends. That was 16 years ago.”
Producing can be solitary. DJing is about the crowd. How do you manage both?
“It’s challenging. There’s a big contrast between the energy of a crowd and the quiet self-doubt in the studio. You need the right people around you to support you and keep you accountable.”
You’re performing at ULTRA South Africa. What does that mean to you?
“A festival like ULTRA draws a huge, diverse crowd you wouldn’t normally see in other spaces. The anticipation of the occasion amplifies everything.”
Platforms like ULTRA bring together international and local acts. Why is that important?
“We’re geographically separated from most of the touring market. ULTRA brings top international acts here. For many fans, travelling overseas to see them is not realistic. It gives local audiences access and raises the standard for everyone.”

Elevating the game for festival crowds
ULTRA crowds are known for their energy. How does that influence your set?
“You have to elevate your game. The crowd responds quickly to shifts in energy. If you lose momentum, people drift to another stage. You have to keep them engaged.”
What can fans expect from your ULTRA set?
“They’ll hear a lot of unreleased music I’ve been working on. I’m preparing new material specifically for this set. Festival shows are about big moments, emotional breaks, high-energy drops and leaving a lasting impression.”
How has ULTRA influenced the South African electronic scene?
“For many local artists, ULTRA is the benchmark. Being on that lineup validates your work. It motivates newcomers and pushes established artists to return stronger each year.”

The story behind Fast Lane
You’re riding the momentum from your new single, Fast Lane. Tell us about it?
“Fast Lane wasn’t planned for release. I posted a clip online, and the response was strong. I decided to finish it and released it less than two weeks later. Some tracks take months to perfect. Others don’t fit the mould but connect with people. Sometimes that’s enough.”
