The 130th edition of the Hollywoodbets Durban July produced another unforgettable chapter in South African horse racing as Note To Self, carrying the number 11 saddlecloth, stormed to victory at Greyville Racecourse on Saturday to claim the richest prize in the race’s history.
The triumph earned the winning connections the prestigious title and the record first prize from the R10 million purse, cementing the horse’s place in Durban July folklore.
From the moment the gates opened, the contest lived up to its reputation as Africa’s premier horse-racing spectacle. The pace was relentless, with the leading contenders battling for position around the famous Greyville circuit before Note To Self produced a powerful finishing burst in the closing stages.
Trained by Justin Snaith and ridden by Richard Fourie, Note To Self entered the race as one of the favourites after an impressive build-up and justified that confidence with a composed, championship-winning performance.
Wish List came in second place and King Pelles rounded out the podium.
However, beyond the race itself, the Hollywoodbets Durban July once again showcased why it remains one of the country’s biggest sporting and social occasions. Thousands of racegoers packed Greyville, embracing the annual fashion showcase, entertainment and world-class racing that have defined the event for generations.
