Lasizwe Dambuza takes a break from social media

Popular South African YouTuber and media personality Lasizwe Dambuza has checked into a mental wellness retreat, openly sharing his ongoing struggles with burnout and depression.

In a candid message posted on social media on Tuesday, Dambuza revealed that the past year has taken a serious toll on his mental health. “This year has been mentally challenging. I’m burnt out. I’m depressed,” he wrote shortly after arriving at the facility.

Taking time away to heal

Dambuza explained that he will be spending several weeks at the retreat and will be offline throughout the festive season, as he will not have access to his phone. As a result, he will be unable to interact with followers or share holiday messages during this period.

He confirmed that his social media platforms have been handed over to his management team while he focuses entirely on recovery. “I’m surrounded by professional help and can’t wait to come home stronger and ready to kick off the new year,” the 27-year-old shared in the caption accompanying his post.

Using his platform to speak up

Using his influence to advocate for mental health awareness, Dambuza urged others who may be struggling to seek support.

“I wish people could take mental health seriously. Please find someone in your community, family, or circle of friends to talk to about your feelings and emotions. Find professional help,” he encouraged.

He also noted that this is not his first voluntary admission into a wellness facility, adding, “We’re back here again.”

Planning rest and renewal

Just weeks before checking into the retreat, Dambuza hinted that he would be stepping away in December. Speaking to Independent Media, he said he planned to use the festive season to rest and reset.

“This festive season, I am out. I am going to regenerate and get back my energy so that in January I can kill it like I killed it this year,” he said.

Looking ahead to 2026

Despite the current challenges, Dambuza has his eye on the future. When asked about his plans for 2026, he revealed that becoming a father is one of his biggest personal goals.

“There is one big project I am working on. I am working on getting pregnant,” he shared.
