GWM ORA 5 Brings Petrol, Hybrid and Electric Choice to South Africa

471

GWM is giving South African compact SUV buyers more choice with the ORA 5, a new model built on the brand’s innovative ONE platform.

Designed to accommodate multiple propulsion technologies within a single vehicle architecture, the ORA 5 will be available with a traditional petrol engine, a hybrid electric vehicle option and a fully electric battery electric vehicle option.

This gives buyers the freedom to choose the powertrain that best suits their lifestyle without compromising on comfort, practicality or design.

Compact SUV with ORA styling

The ORA 5 keeps the distinctive rounded styling associated with the ORA nameplate, while adopting a more commanding SUV stance.

Measuring 4,471mm in length and riding on a 2,720mm wheelbase, it offers generous cabin space and practical luggage capacity within a city-friendly footprint.

Signature round LED headlights, roof rails and an available panoramic glass roof add to its premium appeal.

Technology and safety

Inside, the ORA 5 is equipped with GWM’s latest Coffee OS infotainment system.

The cabin features a dual-screen layout, seamless smartphone connectivity and voice-command functionality.

Safety features include six airbags as standard across the range, along with an extensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems designed to support driver confidence.

Petrol, hybrid and electric powertrains

The petrol-powered ORA 5 is fitted with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine producing 105kW and 210Nm of torque.

It is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The HEV derivative combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with an electric motor to deliver a combined 164kW and 476Nm through GWM’s dedicated two-speed hybrid transmission.

For buyers considering electric mobility, the BEV models are powered by a 150kW electric motor producing 260Nm of instant torque.

Energy comes from a 58.3kWh lithium-ion battery, offering a claimed driving range of up to 520km on the NEDC cycle.

Giving South African motorists more choice

According to Floyd Ramabulana, Head of Marketing at GWM South Africa, offering three powertrains at launch gives South African motorists real choice in a competitive compact SUV segment.

“The ORA 5 combines modern design, advanced technology and everyday practicality in a package that we believe will resonate strongly with local customers,” Ramabulana says.

The ORA 5 range starts at R364,900 for the 1.5T Super Luxury DCT and extends to R599,900 for the flagship Ultra Luxury BEV.
