Hybrid Chic: OMODA C5 SHS

983

OMODA is expanding its popular C5 range with the local arrival of the new C5 SHS in March, introducing a coupé-inspired hybrid crossover to the South African market.

As the best-selling model within the Brand O&J portfolio, the C5 plays a central role in the marque’s success, and the addition of an electrified variant strengthens its appeal in a segment increasingly focused on efficiency and value.

A new hybrid direction for OMODA

The C5 SHS marks an important step in OMODA’s evolution, bringing hybrid technology to one of its most recognisable nameplates.

Designed to appeal to urban drivers seeking modern design and lower fuel consumption without sacrificing performance, the SHS adds a refined, future-facing option to the compact crossover category.

Performance meets efficiency

Under the bonnet, the C5 SHS combines a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver a total output of 165 kW and 310 N.m of torque.

This setup enables confident performance, with a 0–100 km/h sprint time of 7.9 seconds.

Efficiency remains the standout feature.

A 1.83 kWh LFP battery supports the hybrid system, enabling the vehicle to achieve a combined fuel economy of just 5.3 L/100 km.

With a driving range exceeding 1,000 km on a single tank and CO₂ emissions limited to 120 g/km, the C5 SHS is positioned as a practical choice for long-distance and daily commuting alike.

Smooth hybrid driving experience

Power is delivered to the front wheels via OMODA’s Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), engineered for smooth, seamless transitions between electric and petrol power.

The Super Hybrid System prioritises electric driving wherever possible, with the petrol engine engaging only when required.

This approach results in quieter operation and a more relaxed driving feel, enhanced further by noise-reducing glass that contributes to overall cabin refinement.

Technology and safety at the forefront

In keeping with Brand O&J standards, the C5 SHS is generously equipped.

A 12.3-inch dual-screen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto forms the digital centrepiece of the cabin.

Safety and driver support are covered by up to 20 advanced driver-assistance systems, including Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Lane Change Assist.

Comfort-focused interior design

The interior reflects OMODA’s focus on comfort and everyday usability. Black leather upholstery, an eight-speaker sound system, a power-operated tailgate and a sunroof are all included, positioning the C5 SHS as a well-rounded offering in its class.

Further details, including local pricing and specifications, will be confirmed closer to the official on-sale date.

Brand insight

“The upcoming C5 SHS represents the next step in expanding the OMODA lineup, introducing a sophisticated hybrid system that balances strong performance with impressive efficiency,” says Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager at OMODA & JAECOO South Africa.

“Paired with our advanced Super Hybrid System and a feature-rich, comfortable and stylish package, the C5 SHS offers excellent value for money while delivering a refined and responsible driving experience.”
