The search for the next destination for Tropika Island of Treasure is underway with the launch of its companion series, Tropika Island Search.
As auditions open for Season 12, the show follows host Zanele Potelwa as she travels to seven global island destinations to find the perfect filming location.
Mombasa sets the tone for Season 12
In the latest episode, Zanele is joined by Jonathan Boynton-Lee as they explore Mombasa.
The coastal city stands out for its:
• White-sand beaches and turquoise waters
• Rich Swahili heritage
• Vibrant food and coffee culture
Jonathan describes Mombasa as a layered destination shaped by African, Arab and Indian influences, where architecture, music and food reflect a unique cultural blend.
Culture, history and hidden gems
Old Town emerged as a highlight during the visit, with its carved wooden doors, spice shops and colourful streets.
A key landmark is Fort Jesus, a historic site built from coral stone and steeped in centuries of history.
The culinary experience also stood out, with Swahili-inspired dishes featuring coconut, spices and fresh seafood.

A perfect 24-hour island itinerary
Jonathan’s ideal Mombasa experience includes:
• Sunrise walk along the beach
• Exploring Old Town and Fort Jesus
• Fresh seafood lunch by the ocean
• Sunset sailing followed by a swim
The city’s slower coastal rhythm adds to its appeal, offering both energy and calm.
Why Africa should be explored more
Jonathan highlights the importance of travelling within Africa.
He notes the continent offers world-class destinations with strong cultural connections, where food, music and people feel both familiar and distinct.
From Games Master to contestant
Having experienced the show as both Games Master and contestant, Jonathan says competing brings a different level of intensity.
Challenges are unpredictable, alliances shift, and adaptability becomes key.
His advice for Season 12 entrants:
• Stay adaptable
• Keep a clear head under pressure
• Focus on the experience
