Veteran actor Seputla Sebogodi dies

Veteran South African actor Seputla Sebogodi has died, bringing to an end a distinguished career that left a lasting impact on the country’s television, film and theatre industries.

Celebrated for his versatility and commanding screen presence, Sebogodi appeared in numerous productions over several decades. He was perhaps best known for playing the ruthless Kenneth Mashaba on the popular soap opera Generations, a role that established him as one of South Africa’s most memorable television villains.

Family confirms his passing

News of Sebogodi’s passing was announced in a statement shared by Actor Spaces on behalf of his immediate family.

“A giant of South African stage and screen has taken his final bow,” the statement read. “We are deeply saddened by the passing of legendary actor Seputla Sebogodi, whose remarkable career shaped generations of South African storytelling. From unforgettable performances on television to a powerful presence on stage, his contribution to the arts leaves an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire for years to come.”

According to reports, Sebogodi died on the evening of 15 July 2026 after complications related to diabetes.

The statement also thanked the public for its support.

“Our heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone whose lives he touched. May his legacy live on through the stories he told and the countless artists he inspired. Rest in power, Ntate Seputla Sebogodi.”

Tributes begin to pour in

Tributes have begun flowing from across the entertainment industry following news of Sebogodi’s death.

Fellow actor Roderick Japhtha remembered working with him on the original Paradys.

“Another giant has fallen,” Japhtha wrote. “I remember the only time we worked together, a fight scene in a river on the original and first Paradys. You were kind, fun and highly professional. Travel well my friend, and may flights of angels sing you to your rest.”

Family requests privacy

The Sebogodi family has asked for privacy as they mourn their loss and make arrangements during this difficult time.
