SASSA Gold Card Holders Have Until 31 August 2026 to Switch to the New Postbank Black Card

SASSA grant beneficiaries have until 31 August 2026 to replace their old SASSA Gold Cards with the new Postbank Black Card.

After this deadline, the Gold Card will be completely phased out and will no longer work at retailers or ATMs, making it essential for beneficiaries to migrate before the end of August to continue receiving their grants without interruption.

Postbank has confirmed that 31 August 2026 is the final date to switch to the new Black Card.

Beneficiaries who have not replaced their Gold Card by then risk experiencing disruptions when accessing their social grant payments.

How to replace your SASSA Gold Card

Replacing the card is free of charge.

To receive a new Postbank Black Card, beneficiaries only need to present:

• A valid South African identity document (ID), or
• A valid temporary ID.

Beneficiaries can swap their cards at dedicated Postbank card replacement sites or selected retail stores nationwide, including:

• Checkers
• Usave
• Pick n Pay
• Boxer
• Spar

Card replacement sites operate from Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 17:00.
