The replacement card is free, requires no application forms and begins working immediately. Any existing balance will transfer automatically.

How to replace your SASSA Gold Card

Beneficiaries can collect a free Postbank Black Card from selected partner stores.

These include:

  • Shoprite
  • Checkers
  • Usave
  • Pick n Pay
  • Boxer
  • SPAR

Bring a valid South African identity document or temporary identity document. No application forms are required.

Dial 120355# from a mobile phone to find the nearest active card replacement site.

When will SASSA Gold Cards stop working?

The deadline is 31 August 2026.

Gold Cards will expire and stop functioning completely after this date. Beneficiaries should complete the switch before the deadline.

More than 1.5 million beneficiaries have switched

During an interview on 702, Postbank chief commercial officer Thami Cele said more than 1.5 million beneficiaries had already moved to the new cards.

Between 250,000 and 280,000 people still need to complete the replacement process.

How to avoid Postbank Black Card scams

The Postbank Black Card replacement is free. Beneficiaries should not pay anyone to receive one.

Check that the word “Postbank” appears clearly on the front of the card.

Be cautious if anyone asks you to complete lengthy application forms or pay for the replacement card.

Postbank will never ask for your PIN or one-time password.
