Red Bull Back2Beyond takes over Durban

1.4k

The dance format reshaping South African electronic music lands in Durban on 14 March 2026. After a strong debut in Pretoria, Red Bull Back2Beyond heads to the coast, taking over The Station for a night built on collaboration, contrast, and live musical exchange.

Durban hosts the next chapter

Following its first South African edition at 012 Central in November 2025, Red Bull Back2Beyond arrives in Durban with momentum. The event transforms The Station into a multi-stage environment where sound moves freely, and genres collide.

Across the night, Zakes Bantwini, Kabza De Small, Distruction Boyz, and DJ LeSoul rotate through paired back-to-back sets. No fixed order. No hierarchy. Artists respond to each other in real time.

A format built on conversation

Back2Beyond rejects the standard festival structure. Instead of one main stage, multiple spaces run simultaneously. As crowds move between them, genres evolve in real time.

House flows into Afro-tech. Afro House blends into Amapiano. Gqom clashes with 3-Step. Each pairing becomes a dialogue rather than a performance. The result exists only in that moment, shaped by instinct and energy.

This structure keeps the experience intimate while remaining scalable. It also reinforces South Africa’s position as a global leader in electronic music innovation.

Durban’s sound, past and future

Durban brings its own weight to the format. The city’s history with Gqom, house, and experimental club sounds makes it a natural fit.

The Pretoria edition set a new benchmark for collaborative performance. Durban now carries that energy forward with a lineup rooted in heritage and forward movement.

Meet the artists

Zakes Bantwini
Raised in KwaMashu’s F-Section, Zakhele Madida has spent more than 20 years shaping South African music. From early work through Mayonie Productions to global success with tracks like Bum Bum and Osama, his influence runs deep. Osama topped the charts worldwide for 14 consecutive weeks. A Grammy winner for Bayethe alongside Wouter Kellerman and Nomcebo Zikode, Zakes now closes one chapter with Abantu while pushing into the next. Growth drives the move.

Distruction Boyz
Thobani Que Mgobhozi and Zipho Goldmax Mthembu took Gqom from Durban streets to global dance floors. Omunye became a worldwide hit. Gqom Is The Future marked the genre’s first gold-certified album. After time apart, the duo returns with sharper focus. The sound stays raw. The mission stays clear.

DJ LeSoul
Born in KwaMashu, Nonkululeko Mdlalose has pushed the boundaries of electronic music since 2017. As DJ LeSoul, she blends African rhythm with modern production. Her work gained global reach through UnOrthodox Sounds. A Red Bull Music Academy lead producer and Metro FM host, she brings precision and authority behind the decks. Control defines her sets.
