Psyfo revealed as Clock on The Masked Singer SA Season 3

Former child star, television presenter, singer, songwriter, producer and media executive Sipho “Psyfo” Ngwenya has been revealed as the celebrity behind Clock on the latest episode of The Masked Singer South Africa Season 3.

Despite a series of clues throughout the episode, Psyfo successfully fooled the show’s super-detectives J’Something, Somizi Mhlongo, Sithelo Shozi and Skhumba Hlophe until the dramatic unmasking on SABC 2.

Clock takes on Sushi in the opening battle

The latest episode featured four masked celebrities battling it out on stage: Sushi, Clock, Spinach and Pineapple.

Clock faced Sushi in the opening showdown, performing I Like to Move It, the popular track from the movie Madagascar.

As always, the detectives searched for clues in Clock’s movements, costume, song choice and the pre-performance clue package.

Among the biggest hints were references to being part of the “young elite”, being a lifelong student trapped in the mind of a young perfectionist, and the revelation: “I didn’t chase fame – I tripped over it in front of everyone.”

Detectives struggle to crack the clues

The clues left the panel divided.

J’Something admitted Clock was a confusing character before initially guessing singer Zoë Modiga.

Somizi focused on dessert references from the clue package, first considering Khanyi Mbau before settling on content creator Tumi Stopnonsons after studying Clock’s physique.

Sithelo Shozi selected actor Sandile Mahlangu in an attempt to bounce back after failing to identify her close friend Linda Mtoba as Lady Monster in the previous episode.

Skhumba Hlophe joked that Clock’s “chopsticks legs” were “set at half-past six”, leading him to suggest Olympic silver medallist Hezekiél Sepeng or Caster Semenya.

Clock’s time runs out

The detectives and superfans voted in favour of Sushi during the opening battle.

After Spinach became the Dish of the Day in the second showdown, Clock entered the danger zone alongside Pineapple.

Pineapple survived the final vote, leaving Clock to face the unmasking.

Before the reveal, the detectives made one last round of guesses.

J’Something switched to comedian Dillan Oliphant, Somizi remained convinced it was Tumi Stopnonsons, Sithelo debated between Esona Maphumulo and singer Ciza Nciza before choosing Ciza, while Skhumba locked in DJ and producer Kabza de Small.

Psyfo’s identity revealed

The panel was left stunned when Clock removed the mask to reveal Sipho “Psyfo” Ngwenya.

Psyfo began his entertainment career as a child performer on Kideo Pops, before presenting Star Search and YoTV, and later acting in Generations.

One of the biggest clues referred to him being a lifelong student. Sipho Ngwenya, better known as Psyfo, holds an MBA from the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science.

Speaking to host Mpho Popps after the reveal, Psyfo said he is a huge fan of the show and enjoyed the opportunity to perform as a Mask.

He also explained that he chose I Like to Move It because it is his son’s favourite song.

The Masked Singer South Africa Season 3 is produced by Rose and Oaks Media for Primedia Studios and is sponsored by Andolex, King Pie and Mentos.

Premiere episodes air on SABC 2 on Saturdays at 19:00.

Viewers who miss the broadcast can watch the rebroadcasts on Thursdays at 21:00 on SABC 1 and Fridays at 13:30 on SABC 2.
