SABC 2 Launches New Multi-Generational Drama Paradys

2.8k

SABC 2 will debut its new drama series Paradys on Monday, 23 February 2026 at 19:00.

Paradys centres on a once-promised “Coloured paradise” that never materialised, and on the two families left in its shadow: the Booysen and Malgas families. The series unpacks legacy, faith, betrayal and family expectation in a town where morality and greed collide.

A Story Rooted In Family And Secrets

Viewers meet Rochelle Booysen, played by Lorcia Cooper. Rochelle fled Paradys 16 years ago after running away with the baby she carried as a surrogate for her sister, Natasha Malgas, portrayed by Chantal Stanfield.

She returns after the murder of her father, Reverend Clive Booysen, played by Roderick Jafta. His death on his 60th birthday forces her to confront a town that cast her out and a past she tried to escape.

Vinny Malgas, portrayed by Elton Landrew, stands as a powerful businessman determined to conceal the truth surrounding Clive’s murder. Rochelle’s return with her 15-year-old daughter, Kim, played by Sharne Coetzee, reopens old wounds and unsettles fragile alliances.

Where Faith Meets Crime

Paradys unfolds in a town shaped by religion, ambition and whispered secrets. It is spiritual yet dangerous. Emotional yet unforgiving.

Family conflicts feel biblical in scale. Each character carries both conviction and concealed truth. The tension between morality and greed drives the narrative forward.

A Milestone For Representation

Executive producer Mandla N describes the series as a defining moment for South African television.

Produced by Black Brain Pictures, Paradys aims to reflect the richness and complexity of the Coloured community through authentic storytelling and collaboration.

SABC2 Acting Head of Channel Robyn Verweij says the series showcases South Africa’s diverse cultures and foregrounds representation from a Coloured community perspective, with lead characters telling their own stories.

Paradys positions itself as more than a telenovela. It is a character-driven drama grounded in identity, heritage and shared humanity.
