Johannesburg is set to come alive this March as the Tony Award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen takes centre stage at Montecasino’s Teatro.

Currently one of the most talked-about productions, the show opens on 15 March 2025 for a limited season, captivating all who have ever felt like they were “outside, always looking in”.

The latest iteration of Dear Evan Hansen is a reimagined experience incorporating exceptional local talent, alongside innovative technology that enhances the live theatre experience. Audiences can expect a stunning multi-media set design complemented by an eight-piece live band that breathes new life into this poignant narrative.

The musical, nominated for six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, unfolds the story of Evan Hansen, a relatable high school student grappling with anxiety and the universal desire for connection. The show captures the highs and lows of self-discovery within a modern, interconnected world through memorable songs, such as “Waving Through a Window” and “You Will Be Found”. Its narrative thread offers an uplifting message: even in our darkest moments, we are never truly alone.

Featuring an all-South African cast, the production stars Fleur du Cap Theatre Award winner Stuart Brown as Evan Hansen, alongside well-known talents such as Lucy Tops as Heidi Hansen, Sharon Spiegel Wagner as Cynthia Murphy, and Charlie Bouguenon as Larry Murphy. The ensemble also includes Justin Swartz as Jared Kleinman, Ntshikeng Matooane as Alana Beck, and singer-songwriter Keely Crocker, who makes her professional debut as Zoe Murphy. Michael Stray, known for his roles in Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story and Dead at the Box Office, takes on the role of Connor Murphy.

Tickets are available for purchase from R150 at Ticketmaster. [Hyperlink: https://www.ticketmaster.co.za/venueartist/113/996156?calendar_view=1]
