More closures possible as storm intensifies
The update comes as parts of the Western Cape remain under severe weather warnings following heavy rain, flooding and damaging winds across the province.
Several schools in the Cape Winelands and Eden districts are already expected to remain closed on Monday, 11 May 2026, due to storm risks and infrastructure concerns.
The WCED says schools outside the affected circuits may still request closure approvals if conditions become dangerous.
Parents urged to monitor updates closely
Authorities are urging parents, guardians and commuters to remain cautious, especially when travelling during severe weather conditions.
The department also advised schools to continue monitoring official updates as weather conditions develop overnight and into Monday morning.
Residents are being urged to:
- avoid flooded roads
- allow extra travel time
- monitor official school communication channels
- prioritise learner safety
