Liverpool FC has officially confirmed the opening dates for its first standalone stores in South Africa – and the numbers behind the club’s local support are massive.
South Africa is home to an estimated 12.7 million supporters, making it one of the club’s biggest fanbases globally and the largest in the region.
The club announced that public launch events for the new stores will take place at:
- 📍 Canal Walk, Cape Town – 19 May
- 📍 Mall of Africa, Johannesburg – 21 May
The openings will become Liverpool’s 24th and 25th standalone retail stores worldwide.
South Africa is one of Liverpool’s biggest fan markets
Fans clamin that no other football club can claim a larger supporter base in the region.
Last season alone, Liverpool matches attracted a cumulative 37 million television viewers across South Africa.
First official Liverpool stores open in South Africa
The new stores at Canal Walk Shopping Centre and Mall of Africa mark Liverpool’s first official standalone retail presence in South Africa.
Fans are expected to gain access to:
- official kits
- training gear
- lifestyle collections
- exclusive merchandise
- supporter apparel
without relying on international shipping.
Liverpool teased the launches on Instagram, telling supporters:
“South Africa, your stores are opening soon, and we are doing it properly.”
The club added:
“We are talking about an experience built for Liverpool fans, by Liverpool fans. This is yours.”
Bruce Grobbelaar involved in fan engagement
South Africa-born Liverpool legend Bruce Grobbelaar is also expected to play a role in local fan engagement activities linked to the launches.
Grobbelaar remains one of Liverpool’s most iconic goalkeepers and a fan favourite among South African supporters.

Liverpool continues global expansion
The South African expansion forms part of Liverpool’s broader international retail and fan engagement strategy.
The club says its standalone retail footprint is now the largest of any sports team globally.
With millions of South African fans already following the club, the new stores are expected to become major supporter hubs in both Cape Town and Johannesburg.
