Le Bistrot de JAN Opens at V&A Waterfront This December

Cape Town’s dining scene is set for an extraordinary addition as Le Bistrot de JAN opens its doors on 5 December 2025 at the rebranded InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town. Building on the success of its namesake in Nice, France, the bistro blends French bistro charm with South African flair in one of the world’s most iconic harbour settings.

Created by Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen, South Africa’s first Michelin-starred chef, Le Bistrot de JAN is designed as a joyful celebration of indulgence, nostalgia, and connection. Guests can expect a concise à la carte menu, elevated comfort food, and a relaxed yet world-class dining experience.

A Distinctly Cape Town Expression

Unlike JAN’s more formal tasting menu restaurants, the Cape Town bistro offers a lighter, more playful expression — from martinis at midday to long lunches overlooking the harbour, and evenings alive with live jazz.

Jan Hendrik reflects: “Cape Town has an amazing energy that always fills me with the same excitement I had as a young chef. Bringing Le Bistrot de JAN home is a full-circle moment — a homecoming filled with flavour, joy and South African pride.”

The Team Behind the Menu

The Cape Town kitchen will be led by acclaimed Executive Chef Giles Edwards, best known for his award-winning work at La Tête. Working alongside Jan Hendrik and JAN Group Executive Chef Andrea Pick, Edwards will craft a menu rooted in classic French cuisine with South African sensibilities.

“Inspired by the comfort of bistro food and infused with Jan’s flair, we’re creating a space where flavour, generosity, and authenticity guide every detail,” says Edwards.

A Perfect Waterfront Setting

Situated at the V&A Waterfront, Le Bistrot de JAN will stand at the crossroads of local heritage and international acclaim. The interiors echo the vibrancy of a European port city, framed this time by the Atlantic Ocean and Table Mountain.
