Kim Jayde: Promoting African Creative Excellence

InBound SA caught up with multi-award-winning media powerhouse Kim Jayde to unpack her 2026 plans, her winning mindset, and how she continues to thrive while keeping it all together.

What would you highlight as the turning point in your career?

The true turning point in my career was landing a job as an MTV Base Africa VJ on a daily show called Newsish. Not only was it my first consistent TV hosting job, but I was also the first Zimbabwean on the channel, which aired across the continent. That opportunity catapulted my career and took me across the world, interviewing everyone from Naomi Campbell to Charlize Theron and Tyler Perry.

What inspired you to create KJ Productions?

In 2019, I took the leap to leave MTV Base and begin my entrepreneurial journey as a business owner. I was already directing and producing digital brand campaigns for clients, but registering KJ Productions PTY Ltd formalised it. I wanted to create content that I wish existed, while simultaneously creating employment for young creatives.

What stories are you most passionate about telling?

Inspirational African stories with incredible African creatives, artists, public figures and actors that represent excellence in industries. No clickbait, no scandals, no drama. Those are the stories that make me love what I do.

Being named one of Forbes Africa’s 30 Under 30 is huge. How did that recognition shift your mindset?

Making the Forbes list changed my life. It’s a respected global platform, and when people hear that you’re part of this prestigious list, they take you more seriously. I made the list the same year as Rich Mnisi, Trevor Stuurman, Thando Thabethe, and Karabo Poppy. It makes you see yourself the way they see you.

How does it feel to be playing a key role in growing Africa’s creative economy?

I grew up in a small town where we had no major celebs, no young female production company owners, no examples of what was possible for an African woman. This is a luxury the US and UK have had for decades. I carry a huge responsibility to represent not only my family, but also my country in a positive and progressive manner. Other young creatives know it’s possible now, and will hopefully go on to surpass what we have done because the groundwork has been laid.

You’ve built a powerful personal brand. What’s the secret to staying relevant?

Embracing change, and knowing that how we consume content keeps evolving. Shooting high-quality content to promote shows on platforms like Instagram and for media outlets. Learning about different platforms and audiences to stay connected to them.

Your social media presence is authentic and inspirational. How do you maintain boundaries?

I am intentional about how much of my private life I share, specifically my family. That is unusual in today’s social media age, where everyone shares everything. I do my best to protect them and my personal life. But I do share my heart and work with my audience.

Which country has had the biggest impact on your career thus far?

New York City. Hands down. It’s my favourite, and it represents hustle, hard work and collaboration. Creatives and dreamers come from all over the world to make it there. I have built incredible professional connections and friendships in NYC.

What’s your all-time favourite airport?

OR Tambo and Cape Town International are the best. There’s no feeling like landing back home in Mzansi, where people are helpful and friendly.

Kim Jayde’s 2026: what’s next?

World domination. Growing KJ Productions, adding more local productions to the calendar, more partnerships and creative direction. I am stepping into a new season, focused on business while staying true to my style. More travel, and new shows in the pipeline. Watch the space.
