Keep Cape Town Warm Campaign Returns to Support Vulnerable Residents This Winter

453

As winter conditions settle across Cape Town, a city-wide campaign is calling on residents to support those most affected by cold weather and limited resources.

The Keep Cape Town Warm campaign, led by Good Hope FM in partnership with Community Chest and the City of Cape Town, aims to provide essential items to vulnerable communities during the colder months.

A growing winter challenge

Each year, thousands of residents face winter without access to basic necessities such as warm bedding, food and safe shelter.

Children, elderly individuals and low-income households are among the most affected.

Exposure to cold conditions remains a serious risk, particularly during severe weather periods.

What the campaign collects

The initiative encourages donations of:

  • blankets
  • non-perishable food
  • clothing
  • financial contributions

Even small donations play a role in supporting individuals and families during winter.

Proven impact across communities

The campaign has built a strong track record over more than a decade.

In 2025, it collected:

  • over 5,000 non-perishable food items
  • 1,400 blankets
  • 47 bags of clothing

These contributions supported 41 non-profit organisations across Cape Town.

How to get involved

The 2026 campaign runs from 22 April to 20 June.

Residents, schools, businesses and community groups are encouraged to participate.

Donation points include:

  • SABC Studios in Sea Point
  • selected live school broadcasts of the Roger Goode Breakfast

Additional drop-off locations are shared through radio updates and social media platforms.

Cash donations can also be made through campaign channels.

Strengthening community support

The partnership between Good Hope FM, Community Chest and the City of Cape Town is designed to expand outreach and improve support across communities.

Priya Reddy from the City of Cape Town says the collaboration helps extend assistance where it is needed most.

Masi Mdingane from Good Hope FM highlights the role of local participation in sustaining the campaign’s impact.

A focused response to winter needs

The campaign concludes in the week of 20 June with a live broadcast from Community Chest headquarters.

Donations are distributed throughout the campaign period to ensure timely support.

As winter conditions continue, initiatives like this provide a structured way for residents to contribute and support those facing difficult circumstances.
