Freak Accident During Celebrations
According to the information provided, Henderson was celebrating with England supporters as players sang Oasis’s “Wonderwall” following the victory.
While attempting to climb back over the pitchside advertising boards, Henderson’s hand reportedly slipped, causing him to lose his footing and fall awkwardly onto his arm and wrist.
Medical Staff Respond Quickly
England’s medical team and teammates immediately attended to Henderson following the fall.
Due to the high altitude in Mexico City, he was administered oxygen on the pitch before being taken off on a stretcher.
Remains in Mexico City
Henderson did not travel back to England’s World Cup base in Kansas City with the rest of the squad.
Instead, he remained in Mexico City with a member of England’s medical staff to undergo scans and determine whether surgery will be required.
Tuchel Concerned
England manager Thomas Tuchel admitted the injury appears serious.
According to Tuchel, the injury “looks really bad”, raising major concerns over Henderson’s availability for the remainder of England’s FIFA World Cup campaign.
Quarter-Final Doubt
The injury comes as England prepare for their World Cup quarter-final against Norway.
England are scheduled to face Norway on Saturday, 11 July 2026, in Miami, Florida.
With scans still to determine the full extent of the injury, Henderson’s participation in the remainder of the tournament remains in doubt.
