Best Dressed: Country Allure Takes Centre Stage at the 2026 Hollywoodbets Durban July

2.6k

Fashion was as much a spectacle as the racing at this year’s Hollywoodbets Durban July, with guests embracing the event’s Country Allure theme through bold designs, elegant tailoring and distinctly South African flair.

Inspired by the charm of the countryside, equestrian heritage and South Africa’s natural beauty, the theme encouraged racegoers to combine rustic sophistication with contemporary glamour.

Country Allure comes to life

Across Greyville Racecourse, earthy colour palettes, luxurious fabrics, dramatic silhouettes and richly textured garments dominated the fashion scene.

Some guests opted for timeless country-inspired looks featuring tweed, suede and wide-brimmed hats, while others interpreted the theme through contemporary African fashion, showcasing vibrant prints, bold textures and statement accessories.

Fashion awards celebrate standout style

Style enthusiasts also competed in the annual Hollywoodbets Durban July Raceday Fashion Awards, with 150 entrants vying for honours in four categories:

  • Most Striking Couple
  • Classic Racewear – Female
  • Classic Racewear – Male
  • Exceptional Raceday Hat or Fascinator

Winners crowned

Gistine Kifubula claimed the Classic Racewear – Female title with an elegant creation by designer Nqobisa Ndabeni that reflected the Country Allure theme.

Reflecting on her victory, Kifubula said she was “so grateful and amazed” to receive the recognition.

The Most Striking Couple award went to Larnelle Maddocks and Pamela Shabane.

Richard Tulinatbitu won the Classic Racewear – Male category with a sophisticated earth-toned ensemble featuring a tailored brown jacket and matching wide-leg trousers.

Prizes for the best dressed

Each category winner in the Hollywoodbets Durban July Raceday Fashion Experience, presented by Durban Fashion Fair, received R5,000 in prize money sponsored by Race Coast and Schweppes, along with a professional Kryolan make-up voucher and a full-body massage voucher from Mangwanani.

Second- and third-place finalists also received cash prizes sponsored by Race Coast and Schweppes.
