FNB has announced major changes to its eBucks Rewards programme, rolling back several unpopular restrictions ahead of the new banking year.
Although the updates were announced in June, the revised rules officially take effect on 1 July 2026 alongside FNB’s annual banking fee adjustments.
Easier access to eBucks Level 5
FNB has reduced the points needed to qualify for Level 5 across several premium banking tiers.
The updated thresholds are:
- Premier: Reduced from 10,000 to 9,500 points
- Private Clients: Reduced from 12,000 to 11,000 points
- Private Wealth: Reduced from 13,500 to 13,000 points
The move makes it easier for clients to reach the highest rewards tier.
App engagement points increase again
FNB has restored digital engagement rewards back to 500 points per category after previously cutting them to 250 points.
However, clients now need to complete extra actions inside the banking app.
Track My Rewards
Customers earn 500 points by:
- Viewing the “Track my rewards” tab
- Viewing the new “Earn more” tab
nav»Money
Customers earn 500 points by interacting with at least two features, including:
- Credit Status
- My Net Worth
- Track My Spend
- Creating three Smart Budget categories
Virtual card rewards removed
One of the biggest changes affects virtual card spending.
Clients will no longer receive levelling points for using a Virtual Card for more than 80% of their total spend.
The previous 500-point allocation tied to virtual card usage has been removed completely.
Lower Smart Spend rewards
FNB also reduced the amount of eBucks clients earn through Smart Spend tracking categories.
According to the updated structure:
- A Level 4 client spending R16,000 monthly could receive roughly 15% less in Smart Spend rewards
- Level 5 clients could see maximum Smart Spend earnings reduced by up to 40%
New Islamic Banking reward opportunities
FNB added new point categories linked to Islamic Banking products.
Clients using:
- Islamic Banking accounts
- Islamic savings products
- Islamic vehicle finance
will now have additional ways to earn points towards Level 5.
Why the changes matter
The latest adjustments appear to be a response to customer frustration after previous programme cuts introduced stricter requirements and lower rewards earlier this year.
By lowering Level 5 thresholds and restoring app engagement points, FNB is making the programme more accessible again, although reductions to Smart Spend rewards and the removal of Virtual Card points will still impact many customers.
