Cassidy Nicholson is a familiar voice on South African radio and a rising force in comedy. Known for her quick wit, self-awareness, and unfiltered humour, she brings laughter to everyday moments, on air and off.
In this fast-fire Q&A, she shares what makes her laugh, what has gone wrong live on radio, and why South Africans never lose their sense of humour.
If laughter truly is the best medicine, what ailment do you believe your comedy heals?
THE EGO. The ability to laugh at ourselves truly is the best.
If your life had a background soundtrack, what would it be?
Ohhh, this is a tough one, but I think it would have to be Champagne Coast by Blood Orange. If you’ve heard it, you’ll know exactly which part I mean.
What’s the funniest thing that’s ever gone wrong on air?
Oh goodness, you name it. I’ve sneezed, cleared my throat, and my CD ‘hucked’ (I stuttered). And, if I’m being honest, I am still learning to pronounce all the names of the Cape Town roads.
Describe your sense of humour as if it were a pizza.
Spicy salami and a balsamic glaze.
Who makes you laugh the most?
Carl Wastie, off air.
If aliens listened to your radio show, what might they think about humanity?
That we are hilarious. And short.
How would you describe the South African sense of humour in three words?
Yoh. Shame. Hectic.
If you could host a show with any fictional character, who would it be?
Don’t make me choose. Alright, fine. Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory.
South Africa would be a happier place if everyone just…
Looked at Jesse Kriel’s legs more.
