Johannesburg-born dancer Delron Davids has claimed the top spot at the Red Bull Dance Your Style Cape Town Qualifier, held this past weekend.
The 26-year-old impressed judges and crowds alike with his effortlessly smooth, instinct-driven moves, earning the title and securing his place at the national finals.
A street dance battle decided by the crowd
Red Bull Dance Your Style is a global one-on-one street dance competition where individuality takes centre stage. There is no choreography and no pre-selected music. Instead, dancers must react in real time, adapt to unexpected tracks, and win over the audience through pure improvisation, musicality, and presence.
Each battle brings a fusion of street styles, pushing dancers to rely on instinct, energy, and crowd connection rather than rehearsed routines.
High-energy showdown in Cape Town
Hosted by Mel Rock at The Terrance Rooftop in Cape Town, the event opened with an intense one-hour open dance session. More than 40 dancers hit the floor, battling for a place in the top 16.
The competition built momentum throughout the day, eventually culminating in a gripping final battle between Delron Davids and Tyler. Both dancers delivered standout performances, but it was Delron’s control, flow, and musical interpretation that ultimately won over the crowd.
Reflecting on his win, Delron said he was grateful for the experience and the level of competition.
“I am super grateful for the win. Everyone came to play today, and we pushed each other at every battle. I was honoured to go up against Tyler in the final battle and would have been just as happy if he took the win. He’s an amazing dancer,” he said.
Eyes on the national finals
With the Cape Town qualifier behind him, Delron now turns his focus to the national finals, where he will represent the Mother City against the country’s best street dancers.
“I plan to expose myself to different genres of music, listen to my body more and just enjoy what I love,” he added.
The national finals will take place in Bloemfontein on 28 March 2026, where regional winners from across South Africa will compete for the Red Bull Dance Your Style 2026 title.
