Crystal Palace F.C. have officially entered the history books after winning their first-ever European trophy with a 1-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano in the UEFA Conference League Final.
Striker Jean-Philippe Mateta scored the decisive goal in the 51st minute in Leipzig, sealing a landmark moment for the South London club and delivering a dream farewell for departing manager Oliver Glasner.
The victory also secures Crystal Palace a place in the 2026/27 UEFA Europa League league phase.
Crystal Palace complete historic trophy run
Despite finishing 15th in the Premier League, Palace transformed their season through cup competitions and have now collected three major trophies within 12 months:
- UEFA Conference League (2026)
- FA Cup (2025)
- FA Community Shield (2025)
The triumph marks the most successful period in the club’s history.
What Crystal Palace’s win means for English football in Europe
Palace’s Conference League victory has major implications for English clubs competing in Europe next season.
Because UEFA grants automatic qualification to tournament winners, Palace’s Europa League place becomes an additional slot rather than replacing another English team.
That means England will now have a record nine clubs competing in European competitions during the 2026/27 season.

Crystal Palace’s triumph also continues an unusual London trend in the Conference League era.

- Crystal Palace in 2026
Mateta and Sarr lead Palace’s breakthrough season
Jean-Philippe Mateta’s winning goal capped off a strong season for the striker, who finished the campaign with 15 goals across all competitions.
Winger Ismaïla Sarr also played a major role in Palace’s cup success, ending the season as one of the club’s leading scorers with 21 goals.
Captain and goalkeeper Dean Henderson also received praise throughout the campaign and was recently selected for England’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad.
Oliver Glasner leaves Crystal Palace on a high
The European triumph also serves as a memorable farewell for Oliver Glasner, who is set to leave the club after overseeing one of the greatest periods in Palace history.
Under his leadership, the Eagles evolved from relegation concerns to cup winners both domestically and in Europe.
For Palace supporters, the victory represents far more than silverware. It marks the club’s arrival on the European stage.
