BlackByrd finds hope through life’s storms on inspiring new single Rain On Me

Award-winning South African trio BlackByrd has returned with a powerful new single, Rain On Me, a heartfelt country-pop anthem about hope, resilience and faith during life’s most challenging moments.

The release marks the latest chapter for the celebrated group, whose uplifting storytelling and polished harmonies have earned them a loyal following across South Africa.

A song that became personal

Although Rain On Me took longer to complete than originally planned, the trio believes the timing of its release couldn’t be better.

As the song developed, the lyrics began reflecting the band’s own experiences.

“Somewhere between the first lyric and the final recording, we ended up living the song ourselves,” the group says.

“It’s about walking through life’s storms and realising there isn’t always a shortcut around them. Sometimes the only way forward is through them, one day, one step, one breath at a time.”

A full-circle moment in the studio

The recording process reunited BlackByrd with the collaborators who helped shape the band’s sound from the very beginning.

The trio worked once again with their original producer, Juan Floors Oosthuizen, alongside longtime vocal arranger Deveroux Oosthuizen.

Returning to the studio together created an atmosphere filled with trust, creativity and nostalgia.

“It really felt like coming home,” the band says.

“Having them involved again made the whole process feel full circle.”

A message of faith and encouragement

Throughout the past year, Rain On Me became much more than another recording.

The song’s message of perseverance and hope became something the band members leaned on personally during difficult seasons.

Following the success of their previous single, Home, the new release continues BlackByrd’s tradition of creating music that encourages and uplifts listeners.

Using imagery of storms, uncertainty and life’s setbacks, Rain On Me celebrates God’s constant presence as a source of strength, renewal and guidance.

At the heart of the song is the lyric, “God blessed the rain now falling on my field,” reminding listeners that even difficult seasons often produce unexpected blessings.

Solo careers strengthen the band

While each member continues pursuing individual solo projects, BlackByrd says those experiences have strengthened the group rather than pulling them apart.

“We’re fortunate that we don’t have to choose between being solo artists and being BlackByrd,” they explain.

“Every time we come back together, we bring fresh ideas, new experiences, and different musical influences that help the band keep evolving while staying true to who we are.”

A new chapter for BlackByrd

BlackByrd’s career includes two South African Music Awards and a gold-selling debut album, Strong, which produced eight number-one singles.

After relaunching in 2024 with Didn’t I, which surpassed one million YouTube streams, the trio successfully introduced a refreshed country-pop sound while remaining true to their signature storytelling.

Their follow-up single, Home, also reached number one on several major South African radio stations.

The group has already confirmed that more music is on the way, with several new releases planned before the end of the year.

For BlackByrd, Rain On Me is more than a new single. It’s the beginning of another exciting chapter built on hope, faith and music that continues to connect with audiences.
