South African singer Belinda Davids will take on the iconic role of Rachel Marron in THE BODYGUARD The Musical when the international stage production makes its South African premiere in March 2027.
The Gqeberha-born performer, celebrated for her powerful renditions of Whitney Houston’s greatest hits, will make her musical-theatre debut in the production based on the 1992 film starring Houston and Kevin Costner.
The musical opens at Artscape in Cape Town on 12 March 2027, before moving to the Teatro at Montecasino in Johannesburg on 24 April 2027.
Davids will headline an all-South African cast, crew and band, with further casting announcements expected.
Tickets are available exclusively through Ticketmaster, with a limited early-bird discount on selected performances.

Belinda Davids takes on Whitney Houston’s iconic role
Davids has spent years performing Houston’s music to audiences around the world through the acclaimed tribute production The Greatest Love of All.
Now, she will bring her four-octave vocal range to the role of superstar Rachel Marron, combining singing with acting and dancing for the first time in a musical-theatre production.
Audiences can look forward to performances of some of Houston’s most recognisable songs, including:
- I Will Always Love You
- I Wanna Dance with Somebody
- Queen of the Night
- I Have Nothing
- Run to You
- So Emotional
For Davids, stepping into a role associated with her childhood musical inspiration is a significant career milestone.
“I have loved Whitney Houston since I was a child, so to have this new opportunity and fresh, exciting challenges, is a wonderful blessing. I’m so grateful.”
From Britain’s Got Talent to The Bodyguard stage
Davids has already earned international recognition for her performances of Houston’s music.
In 2020, she reached the finals of Britain’s Got Talent, impressing judge Simon Cowell with her rendition of One Moment in Time.
Cowell praised the performance, declaring: “That was the audition we’d been waiting for all season.”
Her international success continued in 2023 when she received a Golden Buzzer on Spain’s Got Talent: All-Stars and progressed to the final.
Her casting in THE BODYGUARD The Musical marks a new chapter as she moves beyond concert performances into musical theatre.
All-South African cast to bring The Bodyguard to life
The South African production will feature a local cast, crew and band, with further details still to be announced.
Hazel Feldman of Showtime Management believes Davids is particularly well suited to the demanding lead role.
“This is such a huge, challenging vocal role, and Belinda has built a reputation around the world as one of the best in the business when it comes to giving Whitney Houston’s songs the same incredible power as the originals,” she says. “And the rest of the cast is just as exciting – watch this space!”
The musical is based on the 1992 film The Bodyguard, which starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner.
The film’s soundtrack sold 45 million copies worldwide, becoming the best-selling soundtrack album ever and winning the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
Two songs from the soundtrack, I Have Nothing and Run to You, also received Academy Award nominations.
