Durban’s premier fine dining jazz destination, Bean Bag Jazz Lounge, will host a three-day Valentine’s Weekend experience from 13 to 15 February 2026.
The programme blends live music with refined culinary artistry in an intimate supper club setting.
Titled Invite Me To Dinner Frank, the exclusive showcase features Idols SA Season 11 winner Karabo, alongside Lia Butler and Linda Gcwensa.
The weekend also includes Idols SA Season 13 Top 6 finalists Lindo, Zee Yanda, Buyie Gold and Nhlanhla Ndaba. Miss Zai leads as host.
A Celebration Of Contemporary African Sound
Curated to celebrate the evolution of contemporary African sound, the lineup delivers a fusion of Afropop, indie and jazz. The candlelit setting enhances the sense of romance and connection across the three days.
“This lineup showcases the future of music with a distinct sound, a seamless fusion of Afropop, indie and jazz,” says David Hwangwa, Restaurateur, Chef and General Manager.
“We want to demonstrate that Bean Bag is more than a jazz venue. It is a space where diverse genres meet to create an immersive musical experience.”
A Cultural Hub In Durban
Bean Bag has positioned itself as more than a performance venue. The lounge operates as a cultural hub where music, cuisine and aesthetic storytelling intersect.
The venue has previously welcomed celebrated artists including The Soil, Manana and Nduduzo Makhathini. These appearances have reinforced its reputation as one of Durban’s leading live entertainment spaces.
Bean Bag forms part of a broader hospitality precinct that includes the award-winning flagship restaurant Zai Restaurant and a newly opened pizzeria. Together, the venues position the brand within Durban’s premium lifestyle and entertainment space.
Design Inspired By Jazz Heritage
The lounge draws inspiration from Vilakazi Street and the golden era of Sophiatown jazz.
Black-owned artwork depicting iconic jazz legends lines the walls. Custom leather seating and rich velvet drapery create a nostalgic yet contemporary atmosphere.
A Three-Course Culinary Journey
Each ticket includes a curated three-course dining experience that showcases elevated traditional African cuisine. Signature dishes include amanqina, isigwaqane, inyama yangaphakathi and inyama yenhloko, all reimagined to complement the musical programme.
“At Bean Bag, we are committed to delivering a musical and culinary experience that is unmatched. This Valentine’s weekend, we are spreading love through exceptional music and curated cuisine, promising an unforgettable experience for every guest,” adds Hwangwa.
