Bassline has revealed the first-phase line-up for Bassline Fest 2026, marking the festival’s 20th anniversary with a powerful celebration of African music. Legendary singer-songwriter Vusi Mahlasela, Sotho-soul favourite Maleh and rising Afro-folk artist Brandon Aura are the first artists confirmed.
The festival returns to Constitution Hill Square in Johannesburg on 23 May 2026, coinciding with Africa Month. Tickets are now available via Webtickets.
Celebrating 20 Years of Bassline Fest
Bassline Fest 2026 celebrates two decades of live music, cultural exchange and African storytelling. The event also marks 32 years of Bassline as a leading force in South Africa’s live music scene.
“Celebrating 20 years of Bassline Fest on Africa Day is both humbling and energising,” says Brad Holmes, founder of Bassline. “For two decades, the festival has been a space where African creativity, excellence and storytelling come together.”
Artists at Key Career Moments
The first-phase line-up brings together artists at important stages of their journeys.
Maleh will perform shortly after the release of her new album in March 2026. Her music blends soul, Afro-Gospel and Mosotho heritage.
Vusi Mahlasela will share new material from his upcoming album, Questions and Answers, set for release in April 2026. Known as the Voice of South Africa, he continues to reflect unity, humanity, and African pride in his music.
Brandon Aura, born in Zimbabwe and recently signed to EMPIRE, is gaining attention as one of the next breakout voices in Afro-folk. Bassline Fest marks his first appearance at the festival.
“I am happy to be part of the Bassline Africa Celebration Festival,” says Mahlasela. “Africa should be celebrated every day. Let us come together on 23 May and celebrate this beautiful continent.”
