Tributes Pour In for Jayden Adams

South Africans continues to mourn the heartbreaking loss of one of its brightest young talents following the passing of Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams at the age of 25.

Adams’ death was confirmed on 11 July, just weeks after representing South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he featured prominently in the nation’s historic campaign.

 The talented midfielder played in all three of Bafana Bafana’s group-stage matches, helping South Africa reach the knockout stages of the tournament for the first time.

The Stellenbosch local , Adams rose through the ranks at Stellenbosch FC, becoming the club’s first academy graduate to earn a professional contract. His impressive performances earned him a move to Mamelodi Sundowns in 2025, where he continued to establish himself as one of South Africa’s most exciting midfielders.

Tributes have poured in from across the football world, with teammates, supporters and officials remembering Adams not only for his exceptional talent but also for his humility and professionalism.

South Africa’s Minister of Sport, Gayton McKenzie, described his passing as a profound loss to the nation.

“On behalf of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, I extend my deepest condolences to Jayden’s family, his young daughter, his teammates at Mamelodi Sundowns, his fellow Bafana Bafana players and coaching staff, the South African Football Association, and the entire football fraternity,” McKenzie said.

FIFA and the rest of world have also expressed their condolences throughout the weekend.
