Virgin Active South Africa has unveiled its first Collection Country Club in Green Point, Cape Town, marking a major evolution in the brand’s local offering.
The new 5,500 m² social wellness club, located at the site of the former Point club, represents an investment of more than R100 million and officially opened to the public on 19 February 2026.
Positioned as South Africa’s first Collection Country Club, the concept blends fitness, recovery, nutrition, co-working and community into a single, holistic space designed around preventative and restorative health.
A new era of social wellness
Virgin Active Global CEO Dean Kowarski describes the concept as a reimagined social wellness club.
“Our social wellness clubs have been reimagined as stunning spaces with exceptional hospitality. A place where training, recovery, wellness and social connection are given equal importance,” he says.
The Green Point Collection Country Club offers a 360-degree wellness approach, integrating physical, mental, social and emotional wellbeing under one roof.
Virgin Group Founder Sir Richard Branson reflected on South Africa’s role in the brand’s journey.

“What the team has created at the Point Collection Country Club is a brilliant example of how Virgin Active continues to evolve and reimagine wellbeing for the future,” he says.

Chad Le Clos Swim Academy
Virgin Active has partnered with Olympic gold medallist Chad Le Clos to launch a national swim academy.
“The Virgin Active Chad Le Clos Swim Academy gives members the opportunity to learn, improve and build confidence in the water,” says Le Clos.

The academy will roll out to clubs across South Africa, offering structured coaching for beginners through to competitive swimmers.
The “second space” concept
Kowarski describes the Collection Country Club as a “second space”, neither home nor office, but a lifestyle environment designed for training, recovery, focus, work, connection and restoration.
The concept aligns with global wellness trends, recognising movement, recovery, and community as central to mental and physical well-being.
The development also reinforces Virgin Active’s long-standing presence in Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard, where it has operated for more than 25 years.
The Green Point Collection Country Club forms part of a broader national upgrade programme, with additional developments planned across South Africa in 2026.
