Johannesburg got an early taste of Miley Cyrus’s new musical era as fans, creators and entertainment personalities gathered for an exclusive pre-release listening experience for her tenth studio album, Bass Persuades.
The album officially arrived worldwide on 18 September, with all 10 tracks now available across major streaming platforms.
Ahead of the global release, Warner Music Africa brought the album to South African listeners at the Roger Ballen Centre for Photography in Forest Town.
Guests heard Bass Persuades from beginning to end before its worldwide arrival.
Miley enters a new era with ‘Bass Persuades’
Bass Persuades brings together dance-pop, electronic textures, ’80s-inspired sounds and experimental moments across its 10 tracks.
The album includes collaborations with Model/Actriz on “Different Religion” and Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow on “Neon Signs”.
Frequent collaborators Kid Harpoon and Maxx Morando are among those who contributed to the album’s production.
The title track provided the first taste of the project earlier this month.
Its music video was directed by Mert Alas, with the song combining throbbing ’80s-inspired synths with a dance-pop pulse, inviting listeners to put down their phones, surrender to the moment and simply dance.
Johannesburg hears the album before its release
Warner Music Africa transformed the Roger Ballen Centre for Photography into an immersive listening space for the South African event.
Among those attending were television personalities Chanley Wong and Lee-Roy Wright, fashion model Ponahalo Mojapelo and radio personalities Mike Vee, Thabile TTO and Joy Fakude.
Digital creators, industry insiders and Miley fans also joined the listening experience.
“There’s something incredibly special about hearing an album for the first time together, especially a project as exciting and unexpected as Bass Persuades,” says Ayanda Mnguni, Senior Marketing Manager at Warner Music Africa.
“We wanted to create an experience that allowed fans, creators and our industry partners to really immerse themselves in Miley’s new era before the album officially arrived.”
