Women Chefs and Winemakers Unite for Exclusive Cape Town Lunch Series

This Women’s Month, two of Cape Town’s acclaimed restaurants are joining forces for a unique dining experience celebrating the women shaping South Africa’s food and wine scene.

Upper Union and Reverie Social Table will host an intimate Sunday lunch collaboration throughout August, bringing together chefs, female winemakers and just 16 guests for each exclusive event.

Hosted by Upper Union’s executive chef Amori Burger and Reverie Social Table’s chef-owner Julia Hattingh, the four-lunch series will showcase seasonal cooking, thoughtfully paired wines and conversations around the table.

Each lunch features a three-course menu, complemented by a selection of collaborative dishes, freshly baked bread and a friandise. Every event will also be paired with wines presented by a featured female winemaker.

• 9 August: Reverie Social Table with Kasteelberg Wines & RAAR
• 23 August: Upper Union with McFarlane Wines
• 30 August: Upper Union with Atlas Swift

Celebrating women in food and wine

Located in Cape Town’s Gardens neighbourhood, Upper Union has built a reputation for bold, globally inspired dishes designed for sharing. Executive chef Amori Burger draws inspiration from family Sunday lunches, creating seasonal menus built around generous flavours, vibrant ingredients and carefully selected South African wines.

Observatory’s Reverie Social Table offers one of Cape Town’s most intimate dining experiences, centred around a communal table where guests enjoy seasonal menus paired with local wines. Since opening in 2015, chef-owner Julia Hattingh has focused on sustainable produce and fostering meaningful connections between diners, winemakers and local producers.

Together, the two chefs will blend their distinctive styles into collaborative menus created especially for Women’s Month.

Female winemakers take centre stage

Each lunch will also highlight one of South Africa’s leading female winemakers, with wines selected to complement the seasonal menu.

Seating is limited to just 16 guests per lunch, with the experience priced at R1,500 per person, including wine pairings.
