George, Garden Route, SA (May 2025) – Louis Massyn, a living legend in the world of athletics, is gearing up to tackle his 50th Comrades Marathon at the age of 75. This incredible milestone is not just a testament to Louis’ endurance and dedication, but also an opportunity to give back to the community.
Louis has partnered with the NPO BINAH and Legacy Center, an organisation that provides support to children with special needs. Through his 50th Comrades Marathon, Louis aims to raise funds for this worthy cause, inspiring others to join him in making a difference.
Binah (Understanding), an initiative founded by parents of children with autism, has launched The Legacy Centre—a one-to-one tutoring facility designed to support the unique learning needs of children with special needs in a warm, familial environment.
Driven by personal experience, the founders created Binah to raise awareness and foster societal acceptance of children with special needs. The Legacy Centre reflects their deep commitment to building a better future—not only for their own son but for many others in similar circumstances.
The Legacy Centre offers individualised educational programs that focus on each child’s strengths while addressing their specific challenges. With a low-stimulation environment and trained, compassionate staff, the centre provides a safe space where children can thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. Binah envisions a more inclusive society—starting with empowering these children through understanding and personalized education.
In March 2023, the founders expanded their vision by opening Ons Plasie—a residential home for young men with autism on a smallholding in Oudtshoorn. Created as a long-term living solution for their 18-year-old son, Migael, and others like him, Ons Plasie offers a fulfilling lifestyle where the residents care for sheep, chickens, and a vegetable garden—building skills, confidence, and community.
“I’m thrilled to be partnering with BINAH and Legacy Center for my 50th Comrades Marathon,” says Louis. “This organisation does incredible work in supporting children with special needs, and I’m honoured to be able to contribute to their efforts.”
The platform Given Gain empowers amazing humans to champion the causes they love and care about. It is for this reason that Massyn listed this campaign on the platform. Patrons from all over the world can contribute to this worthy cause and make a difference in the lives of children with special needs.
