SASSA November 2026 grant payment dates could change due to elections

SASSA is reviewing its November 2026 social grant payment dates after Election Day was scheduled for the same week as millions of beneficiaries were due to receive their grants.

The South African Social Security Agency announced on Wednesday, 30 September, that it is consulting stakeholders about an alternative payment schedule after Wednesday, 4 November 2026 was declared Election Day and a nationwide public holiday.

The date creates a direct clash with the previously approved SASSA payment calendar, with Disability Grants originally scheduled to be paid on 4 November.

New November SASSA payment dates have not yet been announced.

Beneficiaries have been assured that the potential date changes will not affect their entitlement to their November grants.

SASSA November 2026 payment dates under review

The original November payment schedule was:

• Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 3 November 2026
• Disability Grant: Wednesday, 4 November 2026
• Children’s Grants: Thursday, 5 November 2026
• Grants under review: Friday, 6 November 2026

However, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared Wednesday, 4 November 2026, as the date for the Local Government Elections and a nationwide public holiday.

That means the scheduled Disability Grant payment falls directly on Election Day.

The public holiday also creates operational overlaps involving payment points and financial institutions.

SASSA is now consulting its stakeholders before finalising an adjusted November payment timetable.

Have the new SASSA November payment dates been announced?

No.

SASSA has not yet announced the revised November 2026 social grant payment dates.

The agency said updated dates will be formally communicated once its consultations have been completed.

Beneficiaries should therefore not treat the previously published November schedule as the final payment timetable while the review is under way.

Will beneficiaries still receive their November grants?

Yes.

SASSA has reassured beneficiaries that the review of the payment dates will not affect their legal entitlement to their grants.

Every eligible beneficiary will still receive their November 2026 social grant.

The issue being considered is when payments will be made because of the clash with Election Day, rather than whether grants will be paid.

Are October SASSA payment dates changing?

No. The review relates to the November 2026 payment schedule.

October grant payments remain unaffected and will proceed according to the existing schedule, beginning with the Older Persons Grant on Friday, 2 October 2026.

SASSA is expected to announce the revised November payment dates once consultations with stakeholders have been completed.
