Max Verstappen is back in the championship hunt after a smart, controlled win at the Qatar Grand Prix. Red Bull used sharp strategy and calm execution to give the reigning World Champion the momentum he needed to close the gap in the standings.

A Fast Start That Set the Tone

Verstappen launched well off the line. He overtook championship leader Lando Norris into turn one and set his sights on Oscar Piastri. For the first part of the race, it looked as if he would need to chase the McLaren driver for several laps.

A Safety Car Turns the Race

Everything changed when Nico Hulkenberg collided with Pierre Gasly. The incident forced Hulkenberg to retire and brought out a Safety Car.

With Pirelli enforcing a strict 25-lap tyre limit, teams faced a key decision. Almost the entire field chose to pit under the Safety Car to save a stop. This move covered one of the two mandatory tyre changes.

McLaren chose not to pit. They committed to making both stops under green-flag conditions. This left them with a significant time deficit to make up.

Verstappen called Red Bull’s move race-defining. He praised the team for acting quickly at the key moment.

Strong Pace in a Tough Weekend

The win ended a challenging weekend for Verstappen. He battled bouncing issues across sessions and missed the podium in the Sprint. He recovered to qualify third and controlled the race from the front once the strategy unfolded.

He finished almost eight seconds ahead of Piastri and cut Norris’ championship lead to 12 points.

Verstappen says the title fight is still wide open. “Well, it’s all possible now. We’ll see,” he said. “I don’t worry about it too much.”
