Every so often, a car arrives that transforms the market. The all-new MG3 is that vehicle – blending smooth performance, comfort, fuel efficiency, spaciousness, stylish design, and an affordable price.

After testing the 1.5 CVT and 1.5 Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) across mountain passes, open highways, and steep inclines, one thing became clear: this is a game-changing B-segment hatchback for South Africa.

Efficiency Meets Performance

The MG3 introduces MG’s Hybrid+ powertrain technology for the first time, marking the brand’s debut of a conventional hybrid. The system combines a 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine (75kW) with a 100kW electric motor and a 1.83kWh battery, delivering a total of 155kW and 425Nm.

  • Fuel economy: Just 4.3l/100km
  • CO2 emissions: 100g/km
  • Acceleration: 0–100km/h in 8 seconds

This means drivers get the best of both worlds – everyday efficiency with enough punch for spirited driving.

Styling That Stands Out

With its torpedo-inspired silhouette and striking “sharkline” front profile, the MG3 makes a confident statement in the hatchback sector. Features include:

  • Projector LED headlamps (Luxury models)
  • LED DRLs
  • Three drive modes (Eco, Standard, Sport)
  • 293 litres of boot space, expanding to 983 litres with seats folded

Inside, soft-touch finishes and metal accents create a premium feel, supported by ample storage and a smart layout.

Dynamic Handling

Thanks to engineering input from MG teams in both the UK and China, the MG3 offers refined comfort and agile handling. It corners with ease and remains smooth on open stretches, staying true to MG’s “fun-to-drive” DNA.

Technology & Safety

Every model is packed with driver-focused technology, including:

  • 7-inch Driver Display + 10.25-inch Touchscreen
  • Wired Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
  • Rear-view camera, cruise control & push-button start
  • ISOFIX points, Hill Hold Control, VDC, Corner Brake Control, Traction Control

The package provides convenience, safety, and peace of mind – qualities that are rare in the compact hatchback segment.
