ULTRA South Africa/ Africa’s premier electronic music festival is officially returning for its landmark 12th edition. Following the immediate sell-out of its early-bird Afterglow loyalty tickets, ULTRA South Africa has officially opened Tier 1 General Access and VIP tickets to the general public, signalling massive anticipation for the festival’s return in 2027.

The two-city festival will take place on:

  • Cape Town: Friday, 30 April 2027 at The Ostrich
  • Johannesburg: Saturday, 1 May 2027 at the Nasrec Expo Centre

As a core pillar of the worldwide ULTRA family, ULTRA South Africa continues to dominate the African dance music calendar, bringing together iconic international headliners, homegrown heavyweights, and thousands of dedicated electronic music enthusiasts. The 2027 edition promises its signature combination of custom stage architecture, high-octane visual production, and diverse electronic soundscapes.

Stage breakdowns: Cape Town and Johannesburg

To cater to the evolving tastes of the local electronic scene, Cape Town will feature an expansive two-stage layout, while Johannesburg will deliver a massive four-stage experience:

  • The Main Stage (Both Cities): The epicenter of the festival, featuring stadium-filling production and internationally acclaimed EDM headliners.
  • RESISTANCE (Both Cities): ULTRA’s globally celebrated underground brand, dedicated strictly to deep house, minimal, and driving techno.
  • The Groove Room (Johannesburg): A dedicated stage celebrating indigenous African electronic rhythms, including Amapiano, Afro-house, 3-Step, Gqom, and Afro-tech.
  • UMF Radio Stage (Johannesburg): Spotlighting the next generation of regional dance producers, emerging artists, and local breakthrough acts.

R500 Million economic boost and cultural impact

The festival has grown into a major driver of tourism and creative employment across Gauteng and the Western Cape. Projections show that the 12th edition will inject R500 million into the South African economy and support over 4,000 jobs spanning hospitality, event logistics, security, and tourism.

“The rapid sell-out of our early loyalty tickets is testament to just how deeply connected this festival is to South African dance culture,” says Shaun Duwe, festival director of ULTRA South Africa. “Our 12th edition will unite 40,000 music lovers through world-class production, international headliners, and African pioneers shaping the future of electronic music.”

Ahead of the full artist lineup announcement, festival organizers will premiere the official 2026 aftermovie on ULTRA Worldwide’s official YouTube channel, UMF TV, on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, revisiting the highlights and festival energy of the previous edition.
