The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa Gala returns on Friday, 20 February 2026, with a new generation voice at the forefront.
Thando Dlomo, the Emmy Award-winning producer and storyteller, has been announced as the leading voice of the 2026 gala. Known for shaping powerful narratives across film, television and global platforms, Dlomo represents bold creative leadership within Africa’s cultural landscape.
A New Chapter For The Gala
This year’s event carries added significance. It will be the first gala held since the passing of the museum’s Executive Director and Chief Curator, Koyo Kouoh.
“Her spirit and vision remain deeply woven into the fabric of Zeitz MOCAA, and the impact of her leadership continues to guide the work we do.”
The evening will honour African creative excellence by bringing together artists, patrons, collectors, and philanthropists to celebrate contemporary art and cultural impact.

Celebrating African Creative Power
The gala remains one of Cape Town’s key cultural events. It highlights the importance of African art, culture and community within both local and global conversations.
By placing a young, award-winning creative at the centre of the programme, the 2026 edition signals confidence in the next generation of storytellers shaping the continent’s future.

A Fundraiser For The Future
As the museum’s annual fundraiser, the gala plays a strategic role in sustaining the institution.
Proceeds directly support curatorial and education programming. This enables the museum to host international exhibitions, expand access through education and enrichment initiatives, encourage intercultural understanding and maintain accessibility for diverse audiences.
The Zeitz MOCAA Gala 2026 promises an evening that honours legacy, celebrates artistic innovation and reinforces the future of contemporary African art.
