Sun on Your Plate Café Brings Veuve Clicquot’s Solar Spirit to Cape Town

604

Throughout December, Veuve Clicquot’s Emotions of the Sun Exhibition lights up Youngblood Gallery. Created with Magnum Photos, the exhibition explores the Sun as feeling rather than form.

Its culinary counterpart, the Sun on Your Plate Café, turns this idea into taste, colour, and texture under the creative direction of Seth Shezi.

From Milan to New York to Cape Town

Having travelled from Milan to New York, the exhibition arrives in Cape Town with renewed energy. Forty photographs by eight Magnum photographers examine the Sun as an emotional force. Warmth, optimism, and radiance guide each image. This same sensibility shapes the café menu, where food mirrors light and mood rather than trend.

A Menu Inspired by Light and Emotion

At Sun on Your Plate Café, Shezi curates a menu rooted in seasonal produce and vibrant hues. Dishes focus on brightness and balance. Familiar flavours feel comforting, while layered textures invite curiosity. The goal stays simple. Translate the exhibition’s emotional temperature onto the plate.

Shezi explains that the process is centred on warmth and surprise. Dishes feel golden, playful, and generous. Each plate reflects the exhibition’s sense of joy and visual intensity.

Veuve Clicquot and the Art of Brunch

For Veuve Clicquot, the café extends the Maison’s global brunch culture. The experience blends food, art, and champagne into one moment. According to Brune Failliot, Global Communication and Digital Director of Veuve Clicquot, the café reflects the same values as the champagne. Generosity. Creativity. Celebration.

Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label anchors the pairing. Citrus notes, white fruit, and subtle brioche lift the menu’s fresh flavours. Its minerality works well with both savoury and delicate dishes, creating a seamless taste experience.

Signature Dishes on the Menu

Highlights include truffle skinny fries with saffron aioli, goat’s cheese on yellow beetroot crisps with wild honey, and salmon sashimi on a turmeric blini. Each dish captures the idea of sunlight on a plate. Bright. Expressive. Joyful.
