Can the Springboks Bounce Back in Cape Town?

1.3k

After last week’s 38–22 defeat to the Wallabies at Ellis Park, the Springboks head into Saturday’s clash at DHL Stadium in Cape Town with one big question hanging over them: can they turn the tide and reignite their Rugby Championship campaign?

Jean-Luc du Preez Returns After Seven Years

One player eager to help South Africa bounce back is loose forward Jean-Luc du Preez, set to start his first Test in seven years. Wearing the No 8 jersey, the Sale Sharks powerhouse says he’s ready to make an impact:

“This will be my first Test start in seven years, and I’d like to do my best for the team and help get us on the front foot,” he told SA Rugby.

At 30, Du Preez knows the weight of expectation is heavy, especially with Siya Kolisi sidelined through injury. He’ll anchor the loose trio alongside Marco van Staden and Franco Mostert.

A Second Shot at Glory

Du Preez admits there were moments he thought a Test recall might never come:

“There were times that I thought I should give up hope, but I could never do that. When you get a shot, you must take it.”

Having rebuilt his form overseas, he’s determined to prove himself again in green and gold.

Respect for the Wallabies

The Wallabies shocked the Boks in Johannesburg, and Du Preez isn’t underestimating them in Cape Town:

“We must give credit to the Aussies, they did well last week. Their turnover attack cut us up a little, so we’ve been working hard on our defence and breakdowns.”

He singled out Fraser McReight as a breakdown threat but stressed urgency at the ruck will be key to blunting Australia’s attack.

The Stage Is Set

With the Boks’ backs against the wall, a sold-out DHL Stadium crowd behind them, and players hungry to make their mark, Saturday could be the stage for a powerful response.

Kick-off is at 17:10, live on SuperSport.
