Cape Town, get ready for the ultimate adrenaline rush. This October, the city’s skyline will echo with the roar of engines as Speed Classic Cape Town brings motorsport back to Philip Kgosana Drive for an unforgettable two-day celebration of heritage, horsepower, and high-speed thrills, taking place on 25–26 October 2025.
Set against Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean, this brand-new invitational hillclimb event marks a powerful return to form for the Mother City.
Backed by Motorsport South Africa and the City of Cape Town, it pays homage to the city’s rich motoring legacy — one that dates back to the first Cape hillclimbs in 1912.
“We’re not just creating another motorsport event,” says co-founder Garth Mackintosh. “We’re building a celebration of legacy, innovation, and craftsmanship. And we want every Capetonian to be part of it.”
A Motorsport Tradition Reborn
Cape Town once boasted legendary hillclimb races through Camps Bay, Kloof Road and Signal Hill. The last recorded event took place in 1962. More than 60 years later, Speed Classic Cape Town rekindles that passion — transforming Philip Kgosana Drive into a 2.1 km high-speed arena with a 150-metre vertical climb that promises white-knuckle excitement.
The event is set to attract both classic car aficionados and speed lovers, offering two distinct competitive experiences:
- Classic Car Saturday (25 October): A nostalgic nod to vintage design and engineering brilliance.
- King of the Mountain (26 October): A modern motorsport showdown as the fastest cars compete for glory.
More Than Just Motorsport
Speed Classic Cape Town isn’t just for petrolheads. It’s a dynamic lifestyle event crafted for the entire city, blending motoring culture, design, food, music, and fashion into one vibrant celebration. Expect:
- Open paddocks for up-close views of the cars and builds
- High-speed demo runs to set pulses racing
- Local gourmet food vendors and artisan stalls
- Luxury hospitality lounges and grandstands
- Family-friendly activations and entertainment zones
Whether you’re a lifelong enthusiast or new to the world of motorsport, you’ll find plenty to love.
