When Temba Bavuma lifted the ICC World Test Championship Mace at Lord’s in June 2025, it ended South Africa’s 27-year wait for an ICC trophy — only the second in the nation’s history. For the Proteas, it was redemption. For South Africans, it was a unifying moment of sporting glory.

Now, the Mace comes home. On Friday, 26 September 2025, the Proteas conclude their nationwide Mother City Mace Tour in Cape Town, where thousands of fans are expected to celebrate cricket’s most prestigious prize.

Sharing Victory Across South Africa

Over the past week, the Mace has travelled to Kimberley, Bloemfontein, Durban, Gqeberha, and East London, attracting massive crowds. The Cape Town finale promises to be the biggest celebration yet.

Captain Temba Bavuma emphasised the community-driven nature of the triumph:

“This is not just our trophy. It is South Africa’s trophy. We lifted it, but it belongs to everyone who stood behind us – in villages, cities, and schools across the country.”

Cricket South Africa on Community and Legacy

For Cricket South Africa, the tour is about more than just celebration. It’s about giving fans — from small towns to major cities — the chance to experience this once-in-a-generation moment.

Refentse Shinners, CSA’s Public Affairs Executive, said:

“This is a chance to revel in a victory that unites us. The Mace is an iconic symbol of cricket’s highest honour, and it belongs to the people.”

Cape Town Tour Details

The Cape Town leg will see the Mother City transformed into a hub of cricket fever:

  • 12:00 – 13:00: Fan Meet & Greet, Grand Parade
  • 13:00 – 14:45: Open Bus Parade through Cape Town CBD

For fans, it’s more than a photo opportunity — it’s a chance to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with history and celebrate the Proteas’ return as Test cricket’s ultimate champions.
