Sjava has released INkanyezi NeZinkanyezi – The Album, closing the final chapter of the acclaimed Inkanyezi Trilogy. The project, following the strong reception of his 2025 live EPs, Inkanyezi and Inkanyezi 2.0, confirms the artist’s position as one of South Africa’s most influential musical storytellers.
A star amongst the stars
Translated as “A Star Amongst the Stars”, INkanyezi NeZinkanyezi reflects collective creativity rather than individual spotlight. The album honours the artists, producers, musicians and fans who form part of Sjava’s creative constellation. The message is clear. One voice carries further when supported by many.
Although audiences first experienced the music live, the album was written and recorded in a studio before the live EPs. The live releases acted as an intentional preview, not the origin point, allowing fans to connect with the songs long before the studio versions arrived.
A bold and deliberate rollout
By debuting the music live, Sjava reversed the traditional album release model. Over 12 months, fans learned the songs, sang along at shows, and even became part of the recordings. Voices from live audiences feature as backing vocals on Inkanyezi and Inkanyezi 2.0, making listeners active contributors to the trilogy.
The result is a body of work rooted in shared experience rather than distance between artist and audience.
A collaboration-rich album
INkanyezi NeZinkanyezi brings together a wide spectrum of South African talent.
Featured artists include Nkosazana Daughter on Sleepover, Buhlebendalo on Sanibonani, Msaki and Zadok on Mdumise, Anatii on Amashidi Amhlophe, and Jesse Clegg on Kuye. Legendary duo Shwi and Dogzin appear on Gusheshe, while Lowfeye and Lacabra of The Qwellers feature on Madibuseng. Siya Ntuli joins Moya Wam, Ntando Dlamini on Uyena, Gusba, J John and Ronaldo on Xigugu, and Zamoh with Mafakhiza on Indoda Enjani.
On the production side, Sjava reunites with long-time collaborator Ruff, alongside Kelvin Momo, Vuyo Manyike, Zadok, Dogzin, Soja, Young2unn, Selani, Anatii, Surprise Ndimande, Lesedi, Herc Cut The Lights and Gavanna. Each brings a distinct sound, adding depth without losing cohesion.
“The project is bigger than just me”
“What makes this project special is the way we rolled it out,” says Sjava.
“I wanted fans to learn the songs before the album dropped. The whole of 2025 became the rollout. They heard themselves on the live EPs and connected with the music early. The people I worked with brought something unique to the project.”
INkanyezi NeZinkanyezi is available on all digital platforms from 30 January 2026.
