Simz Ngema and Tino Chinyani revealed as Sheep on ‘The Masked Singer SA’

One of The Masked Singer South Africa’s biggest mysteries has finally been solved, with power couple Simz Ngema and Tino Chinyani revealed as the celebrities behind Sheep.

The show’s first-ever duo had managed to keep the detective panel guessing throughout the season, but their run came to an end during the semi-final after a close elimination.

While most of the detectives were still looking in the wrong direction, J’Something finally pieced together the clues and correctly identified the couple before the masks came off.

Simz Ngema and Tino Chinyani were hiding behind Sheep

Mama Sheep was Simz Ngema, who entered the entertainment industry as Thuli Nkosi in the SABC soap Muvhango.

She later appeared in productions including Broken Vows, The Queen, Isidingo and Rockville.

Ngema also releases music as Quing Simz, while her passion for dance stretches back to childhood.

Papa Sheep was her husband, model-turned-singer and television presenter Tino Chinyani.

Chinyani moved from fashion into television and became a co-host on e.tv’s The Morning Show. He also performs Afro-pop and Afrobeats under the name Tiyani Afrika.

The clues that pointed to Simz and Tino

For the semi-final, the five remaining Masks, Gogga, Mosquito, Chopsticks, Spotty and Sheep, each had to perform solo.

Somizi Mhlongo, J’Something, Sithelo Shozi and Skhumba Hlophe were joined on the detective panel by amapiano artist Zee Nxumalo.

Sheep performed Justin Bieber’s “Beauty and a Beat” featuring Nicki Minaj.

Their final collection of clues referenced road trips, roast lunches, birthdays and festive reunions.

Mama Sheep also held up Thomas Harris’s The Silence of the Lambs.

Then came the Mystery Box.

A toy sewing machine pointed towards Tino’s modelling career, while a Mother Mary statue reflected Simz’s faith and upbringing as a pastor’s daughter.

A gold bar and eagle provided another clue, with the eagle referencing Tino’s tattoo.

J’Something finally cracks the Sheep mystery

J’Something put the pieces together and landed on Simz and Tino.

His fellow detectives had other ideas, with guesses including Dineo Langa and Solo, Reason and Gigi Lamayne, and Pabi Moloi and Focalistic.

After all five performances, Chopsticks and Mosquito secured their places in the finale.

That left Sheep, Spotty and Gogga waiting to learn who would be eliminated.

In a close result, Sheep’s journey came to an end and the couple finally removed their masks.

Following the reveal, Tino described taking part in the show as “absolutely liberating”, while Simz enjoyed having the opportunity to showcase her triple-threat talent.

Sheep might have missed out on the finale, but after spending the season pulling the wool over almost everyone’s eyes, Simz and Tino certainly made their mark as The Masked Singer South Africa’s first duo.
