The Savanna Newcomer Comedy Showcase returns on Sunday, 8 February 2026, bringing fresh laughs, fearless punchlines and South Africa’s boldest rising comedians to the stage. The event takes place at The Maslow Hotel in Sandton as part of the 13th annual Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards.

Presented in partnership with Savanna Premium Cider and One-eyed Jack, the showcase has become a standout moment on the comedy calendar. The format stays simple and ruthless. Five minutes. One mic. No second chances.

A launchpad for South Africa’s next comedy stars

The Savanna Newcomer Comedy Showcase exists for one reason. To spotlight the next generation of homegrown comedy talent. Twenty comedians take the stage back-to-back in a fast-paced, high-pressure showcase where every punchline counts.

From this lineup, five comedians will be voted through as official Savanna Newcomer Award nominees. One of them will go on to win the Savanna Newcomer Award at the main ceremony on 2 May 2026 at The Lyric Theatre.

Hosted by a comedy powerhouse

The evening will be hosted by Celeste Ntuli, the 2025 Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedian of the Year. Known for her sharp wit and commanding stage presence, Ntuli brings credibility and energy to a night built on pressure and possibility.

The show opens with a special performance from Khanyisile Ngwenya, the 2025 Savanna Newcomer Award winner, setting the bar for the class of 2026.

Beyond the stage: building sustainable comedy careers

The Savanna Newcomer initiative extends beyond a single night. On Monday, 9 February 2026, selected comedians will take part in a dedicated Comedy Workshop at Artistry in Sandton.

The workshop provides direct access to established comedians and industry professionals, with a focus on both the craft and the business of comedy. The aim is clear. Equip emerging performers with practical tools, honest insight and industry knowledge to help build long-term careers.
