Durban does not do motorsport quietly. Last year, the Golden Mile turned into a smoke-filled arena as more than 4,000 fans packed Suncoast Casino for the KwaZulu-Natal debut of Red Bull Shay’ iMoto. Now, the championship returns for a second consecutive year.
On Saturday, 18 April 2026, Suncoast will once again host South Africa’s premier spinning championship. Expect tyre smoke in the salt air, engines echoing along the coastline, and a crowd that knows every rev, slide and burnout by heart.
Durban’s Place on the Shay’ iMoto Calendar
In August 2025, Jean “Panjaro” Kruger claimed victory in Durban. The win crowned a champion, but the night delivered more than a trophy. Rivalries reignited. New challengers emerged. The coastal leg proved that Durban belongs on the Red Bull Shay’ iMoto calendar.
The event blends urban spinning culture with Durban’s laid-back coastal identity. It is raw. It is competitive. It is spectacle-driven motorsport at its loudest.
Twelve Drivers. One Champion.
The 2026 edition follows the championship’s signature 12-driver, head-to-head knockout format. Every round raises the stakes.
Drivers are judged on:
• Vehicle control
• Technical precision
• Style and showmanship
• Crowd impact
A panel of legendary spinners and motorsport personalities scores each run. The audience response can shift momentum. From qualifiers to quarterfinals, semi-finals and the final showdown, every mistake costs.
Since its launch in 2019, Red Bull Shay’ iMoto has crowned champions who pushed spinning into recognised motorsport territory. Past winners include Veejaro, King Katra, Sam Sam, Boksie and most recently Panjaro. Each champion raised the bar. Twelve new competitors now aim to do the same.
Why Durban Hits Different
Durban’s spinning scene carries its own flavour. The city’s multicultural energy, oceanfront setting and reputation as KwaZulu-Natal’s playground create a unique backdrop. At Suncoast, engines roar against crashing waves while tyre smoke drifts into the evening breeze.
This is spinning in front of a crowd that understands the craft. It is not only about burnout. It is about control, timing and connection with the audience.
