Proteas Women Book T20 World Cup Semi-Final Against England

All eyes are on the Proteas Women after they secured their place in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup semi-finals, where they will face England in London on Thursday, 2 July.

South Africa confirmed their place in the last four with a hard-fought six-wicket victory over Bangladesh before Australia’s win over India later in the day sealed their qualification.

The Proteas finished second in Group A with eight points, behind Australia, who topped the standings with a perfect 10 points. India finished third on six points and missed out on a semi-final place.

Australia will face the West Indies in the tournament’s other semi-final.

Proteas overcome Bangladesh

Chasing 118 for victory, South Africa reached 118/6 with four balls remaining in a tense contest.

Although the chase was far from straightforward, the Proteas kept their composure to secure the win they needed.

Bangladesh, after winning the toss and choosing to bat, scored 117/5 from their 20 overs.

Sobhana Mostary led the scoring with 42 off 48 balls, while captain Nigar Sultana remained unbeaten on 32 from 20 deliveries.

Bowlers set up the victory

South Africa’s bowlers laid the foundation for victory with a disciplined performance.

Marizanne Kapp struck with the opening ball of the match and finished with impressive figures of 1/9 from four overs.

Shabnim Ismail claimed 1/15, while spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba picked up 2/22. Nadine de Klerk also contributed with 1/17 from two overs.

Dercksen and Tryon steer the chase

Annerie Dercksen anchored the innings with a patient 45 from 45 balls, while Tazmin Brits added 20.

The Proteas lost wickets at regular intervals, including the run-out of Marizanne Kapp for 16, leaving the match evenly balanced.

Chloe Tryon then produced the decisive finish, striking consecutive boundaries to guide South Africa home and secure their place in the semi-finals.

Australia knock India out

Australia ended India’s hopes of progressing after successfully chasing 171 to win by six wickets.

Ash Gardner finished unbeaten on 53 from 29 balls, while Ellyse Perry scored 56 from 38 deliveries to lead the defending champions to victory.
