Loyiso Bala Announces Departure from Umhlobo Wenene FM and truFM

Loyiso Bala has officially ended a significant chapter in his broadcasting career.

The award-winning musician and media executive has announced his departure as Business Manager of the SABC’s Eastern Cape Combo, overseeing Umhlobo Wenene FM and truFM.

Bala shared the news on social media, describing the role as one of the most meaningful leadership experiences of his career while thanking colleagues, listeners and his family for their support.

“Today marks the end of my journey as Business Manager of the SABC’s Eastern Cape Combo, Umhlobo Wenene FM and truFM,” Bala wrote.

“It has been one of the most stretching and meaningful leadership assignments of my career. Not only because of the responsibility, but because of the people.”

Tribute to colleagues

Bala thanked the teams at Umhlobo Wenene FM and truFM for the trust they placed in him during his tenure.

“To the UWFM and truFM teams I had the privilege of working with, thank you for your trust, commitment and shared purpose. You gave me more than support. You trusted me, and that is not something I take lightly or will ever forget.”

He also acknowledged presenters, producers and internal stakeholders for their collaboration.

“At times, my way of doing things may have been unconventional, but you continued to show up, and together we were able to build moments that mattered.”

Gratitude to family and listeners

Bala paid special tribute to his wife, Jennifer, their daughters and his faith, saying they sustained him throughout his leadership journey.

He also thanked the loyal audiences of Umhlobo Wenene FM and truFM.

“And to the listeners of truFM and Umhlobo Wenene FM, you are family. Thank you for your honesty, your warmth, and your loyalty to these stations.”

Looking ahead

Concluding his farewell, Bala reflected on the milestones achieved during his time at the SABC.

“As I leave this season, I do so with gratitude. Gratitude for the milestones reached, the lessons learned, the trust shared, and the people who made the journey worthwhile. Enkosi kakhulu. I still believe the best is ahead.”

While Bala has not revealed what comes next, his announcement has been met with an outpouring of support from colleagues, industry peers and listeners, many wishing him success in the next chapter of his career.
