Jaguar has revealed the Type 01, a 757kW four-door electric GT capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds and offering an anticipated range of up to 720km.
Described as the first production car of Jaguar’s new era, the Type 01 brings the brand’s exuberant modernist creative philosophy into production with a low stance, long bonnet and sleek silhouette.
Jaguar describes it as “a copy of nothing”, combining elements of the brand’s past with its vision for a luxury electric GT of the future.
And beneath the dramatic design sits the most powerful Jaguar road car the company has ever created.
757kW and 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds
The Type 01 uses tri-motor technology with Intelligent Torque Vectoring to produce up to 757kW and 1,365Nm of torque.
That is enough to take the electric GT from 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds.
Its rolling acceleration is equally significant, with Jaguar claiming the Type 01 can accelerate from 100km/h to 180km/h in 4.0 seconds.
The double world championship-winning Jaguar TCS Racing Formula E team also contributed its expertise to developing the car’s driving character.
The Type 01 has 50:50 weight distribution and has been engineered to combine substantial power with refined comfort.
Up to 720km of electric range
Power comes from a 118kWh battery paired with an 850-volt electrical architecture.
Jaguar anticipates an EPA range of up to 644km, while WLTP range is expected to reach 720km.
According to Jaguar, the range means clients can complete up to 99.7% of all journeys without interruption.
When charging is required, the Type 01 supports 350kW rapid DC charging, with Jaguar claiming up to 321km of range can be added in as little as 13 minutes.
A new architecture created specifically for Jaguar
Delivering the Type 01’s proportions and performance required Jaguar to develop a new electric-only body architecture.
Designed, developed and built in the UK, the architecture was created specifically to enable the Type 01’s distinctive proportions and driving dynamics.
The programme has resulted in more than 360 patent applications, making the Type 01 the most technically advanced Jaguar to date.
Designers and engineers worked together from the beginning to preserve the original design vision while refining the vehicle in the wind tunnel.
The result, according to Jaguar, is the most aerodynamic vehicle the brand has produced without compromising the purity of its design.
Inside the Jaguar Type 01
The dramatic approach continues inside.
A central spine runs the length of the cabin, creating individual spaces for each occupant. Brass-inspired elements run from front to back on either side, reinforcing the longitudinal design of the interior.
Directly ahead of the driver is a 24-inch single-glass OLED Interactive Driver Display, which operates Jaguar’s new infotainment system.
A second seven-inch smartphone-style display positioned between the driver and front passenger provides access to commonly used controls.
The Type 01 also introduces a full-width, full-range Panoramic Soundbar, described by Jaguar as an automotive first, alongside Sensory Audio seats.
Jaguar’s new design direction
The exterior colour palette includes gloss and satin finishes intended to emphasise the Type 01’s clean surfacing and monolithic appearance.
Its Fender Ingot features Jaguar’s famous leaper.
For Jaguar, however, the Type 01 represents considerably more than another new model. It establishes the direction for the reinvented brand.
Rawdon Glover, Managing Director, Jaguar, said: “From its dramatic design to its captivating drive, Type 01 distils the essence of Jaguar into a car for a new era. Jaguars should be objects of desire and culturally relevant – that’s their natural habitat and where Jaguar is returning. Type 01 is the foundation of the brand, one that makes no compromise between design and engineering in our quest to reinvent Jaguar for the 21st century.”
